Fayetteville City Council voted June 23 to annex a roughly 12.5-acre parcel at the end of Bridgewood Drive owned by Phoenix Global Support LLC, clearing the final local step for Yaden Domes to begin construction.
Rob Patton, executive vice president of the Fayetteville-Cumberland Economic Development Corporation, said the annexation is the final step after council previously approved an incentive package and rezoning for the project. Patton told council, “This is the final step before construction will begin.” Matthew Mejia, CEO of Yaden Domes, said the company has already hired some Fayetteville residents and expects to reach a head count near 70 at full operation.
Planning staff and the zoning commission recommended approval, saying the petition meets the requirements of North Carolina General Statutes and aligns with the city’s 2040 future land-use plan. Staff noted water and sewer service is available and provided a fiscal-impact appendix in the packet outlining anticipated stormwater revenue and property-tax effects.
Council member Hondros moved to adopt the annexation ordinance with an effective date of 06/30/2025 to allow additional coordination; the motion was seconded and carried unanimously by those voting. Council and the applicant agreed on the June 30 effective date at the meeting.
Staff noted annexation will impose city property taxes on the parcel and that the property will remain in the county fire-tax and recreation-tax districts. The annexation ordinance adopted by council will set the legal description and effective date; staff will proceed with the recorded documents and coordinate initial service and inspection scheduling.
