Council approves closing unconstructed portion of Bullock Street for church development

Fayetteville City Council adopted a resolution June 23 to close a portion of Bullock Street where a street segment was never constructed, at the request of trustees for Sapona Road Church of God.
Keisha (staff member) said the trustees of the Church of God of East Fayetteville (also identified in the packet as Sapona Road Church of God) petitioned to close the unbuilt portion. She told council the real estate division contacted utilities and would reserve an easement for Charter Communications; Fire, EMS and police were contacted and staff found no impact on response times. Notice and certified letters were mailed and the public hearing was published as required under the state statute cited in staff’s presentation.
Pastor Aaron Wilson spoke in support of the petition; no members of the public opposed during the hearing. Council member Harris moved to adopt the resolution and order closing the identified portion of Bullock Street; council member Davis seconded. The clerk recorded the motion as carried unanimously by those voting.
Staff will record the order and the reserved easement(s) and notify adjacent property owners as required by state procedure. The council did not add conditions beyond the easements noted by staff.
