A significant point of discussion centered on tree mitigation. The applicant provided a sampling approach to calculate tree mitigation that staff said required clarification; the applicant’s mitigation calculation initially produced a large number (roughly 872 canopy trees under one interpretation), and staff recommended the applicant consult the city’s tree‑mitigation calculations (specifically a city staff member, Travis Sales) to confirm the proper method. Staff and the applicant agreed to follow up on a mitigation approach and variances and return at the July 15 meeting with a clear mitigation plan and requested variances. The applicant also noted that the architectural review board had approved building elevations and that several variances requested for campus consistency matched prior approvals.
Commissioners generally supported moving the discussion forward once the tree‑mitigation calculations were reconciled and said they looked forward to a full mitigation proposal and any proposed variance language at the next meeting.
