Beer permit approved for Brentfest; organizer outlines wristbands, certified bartenders and beverage trailer

The Brentwood Beer Board approved a beer permit request from Rhizome Productions to serve beer at the Brentfest event, with the organizer describing staffing and crowd-control measures used in prior years.

The decision allows the event organizer to operate a beverage trailer with on-site taps and to use wristbands and certified bartenders to control sales to adults of legal drinking age. The board moved quickly through the request after the organizer said there were no changes from previous years.

A representative of Rhizome Productions told commissioners the group has provided beverage service at Brentfest since 2019 and would follow the same protocols used in earlier events. "We bring a beverage trailer that has the beer taps on it," the representative said. "All of our bartenders are ABC certified bartenders, so they'll be serving the beer. We issue cloth wristbands. They go in the right wrist of anybody who purchases a beer."

The representative said the trailer would be placed "up and to the right" relative to the stage and that lines typically form on the grass rather than blocking walkways. Commissioner Dunn moved to approve the permit; Vice Mayor Little seconded, and the motion passed on a voice vote with no recorded opposition.

During discussion, a board member and the representative noted event logistics and public-safety considerations such as water availability in hot weather; a commenter referenced a guideline of one water per beer, which a commissioner said could be added to future beer-board business for consideration. The organizer said Brentfest has generally received positive feedback from attendees.
