GFL presents operations update; council approves CPI rate increase under solid waste contract

Xavier Soles, GFL operations manager, told the council that during the past year collection crews worked 258 days and collected about 43.5 tons of commercial trash and approximately 42 tons of residential trash per day. He said the company also collected roughly 6 tons of bulk items daily and delivered about 60 cubic yards per day to the brush yard. Soles said GFL replaced 76 commercial dumpsters, replaced 842 residential carts to standardize service appearance, invested about $770,000 to add two new trucks dedicated to Bay City service and replaced a grapple to improve bulk-collection operations.
Council members praised service improvements and faster complaint resolution. GFL reported staffing of 18 full-time drivers, about 10 support employees and six temporary employees, for a total of 34 on-site workers dedicated to Bay City routes.
The council approved GFL’s contractually allowed CPI rate increase after staff confirmed the request matched the contract formula. The motion passed with no opposition. GFL officials said they will continue customer follow-up work and seasonal outreach and thanked council for support.
The council did not set a separate public hearing on the adjustment; it approved the contract adjustment at the meeting under the established contract procedure.
