Kaufman County commissioners approved routine line-item budget transfers, several budget amendments tied to grant revenue, and authorized weekly payouts totaling $2,675,948.21.
The auditor presented line-item transfers and said a few amendments were needed because of received grant revenue. The court approved the transfers by voice vote.
Auditor Archer presented claims for payment and financial information: accounts payable invoices totaled $608,711.90; juror checks totaled $15,620; and payroll for the pay period was $2,051,616.31, for a total payout this week of $2,675,948.21.
Archer and others raised a separate concern about indigent defense costs. Archer told the court a recent report showed indigent defense spending at roughly $7,677,000 (figure reported in meeting), and said the county was close to exceeding its budget for that line item. Commissioners noted jury costs have also increased and said they are discussing the issue with judges.
Commissioner Moore moved to accept the transfers and pay the claims; Commissioner Blaine seconded. The court approved the items by voice vote.
