The Kaufman County Commissioners Court heard the tax assessor-collector’s monthly reports for May and approved an annual per-parcel fee for ad valorem tax collections.
Tax assessor-collector Teresa reported $744,007.28 in current property taxes collected during May and $93,008.00 in delinquent property taxes, for a total of $838,015.80 collected in property taxes for the month. She also reported $127,096.40 in unpaid deferrals.
On auto collections, Teresa said the county collected $2,806,007.93 in current-year auto taxes for May. She noted the county received $181,003.51 of that amount and that much of the remainder is distributed to the state for roads.
For annual ad valorem collection costs, Teresa proposed — and the court approved — charging $1.50 per parcel for in-county collections and $2.10 for out-of-county parcels. Teresa said the county researched neighboring counties and sought to remain competitive on fees.
Commissioner Phillips moved to approve the per-parcel rates; Commissioner Moore seconded. The court approved the rates by voice vote.
