The Beverly Hills Unified School District board introduced and welcomed William Cameron ("Billy") as the new assistant principal for El Rodeo Elementary for the 2025–26 school year after an extensive selection process.
The Beverly Hills Unified School District board on Tuesday introduced William Cameron, known as Billy, as the district’s incoming assistant principal for El Rodeo Elementary School for the 2025–26 school year.
The appointment follows an extensive selection process, board members said. "Billy was one of the top candidates," Board President Marcus said, noting nearly 60 applicants and multiple screening stages: paper screenings, Zoom interviews and committee review. Doctor Seaman said district representatives included teachers union members, counselors, principals, the director of teaching and learning and board members on the interview panel.
Cameron told the board he comes from a district that has used Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI) in math for more than a decade and that he has experience as a second-, third- and fourth-grade teacher and as a principal. "I'm super excited to be here in BHUSD and partner with the El Rodeo community," Cameron said.
Board members welcomed Cameron. Trustee Banachieri highlighted his background as a long-time elementary teacher and administrator in San Diego and praised his instructional leadership and planning experience. Trustee Stewart, who identified himself as a parent of an incoming El Rodeo student, said he looks forward to seeing Cameron at the school.
Cameron said he plans to begin meeting with the administrative team and school community immediately to support instruction and student engagement.
The introduction was made as part of the board's recognitions and did not require a formal vote.
Ending: The board and district staff said they expect Cameron to begin engaging with families and the school administration in the coming weeks as the district readies for the 2025–26 year.
