Bee County recognizes local early-childhood center for Healthy South Texas program

Bee County Commissioners Court on June 23 recognized Hampton Reno Dugoff Early Childhood Center for earning the Healthy South Texas recognized-school distinction for the 2024–25 school year.
Kim Davis, an Extension agent with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service who runs Healthy South Texas school programming in the area, told the court that HMD met program requirements including youth classroom participation, an adult education program for parents and staff, and a schoolwide Walk Across Texas event. Davis said HMD students logged 11,460.75 miles as part of the program and that kindergarten students participated in a Learn, Grow, Eat & Go curriculum that included gardening, vegetable tastings, and weekly healthy recipes.
Commissioners congratulated the school and encouraged expansion of the program to other Bee County schools. The court noted the program’s emphasis on early childhood nutrition and physical activity and thanked Extension staff for local school partnerships. There was no formal vote beyond the recognition and remarks.
Ending: County staff said they will follow up with Extension to support program expansion to additional schools in the coming year.
