A UN staff member introduced an exhibit in the visitors' lobby at United Nations headquarters displaying the 1945 Charter of the United Nations and titled "Reviving the Spirit of San Francisco," saying the charter “connects us to 1945, to San Francisco, to the spirit that was then inspiring all those 50 delegations to sign the charter of the United Nations.”
The staff member said the San Francisco conference in 1945 “saw 15 nations coming together to sign the charter of the United Nations and form a new organization called the United Nations,” and described the charter as “a time capsule that comes from 1945 to remind us all of the need to eliminate war as an option.”
The presenter framed the exhibit as a link between the founding moment of the United Nations and current global challenges, saying the organization’s goals — human rights, peace and security, and sustainable development — continue to guide its work. “We do not need to go through another world war to pursue the same goals that are contained in the charter,” the staff member said.
According to the presenter, the charter is on display at United Nations headquarters for the first time since 2011. The remarks in the visitors' lobby emphasized the exhibit’s educational and historical purpose rather than any formal policy action or decision by the organization.
