The United Nations strongly condemned an attack on a convoy of peacekeepers in the Central African Republic on June 20 that killed a Zambian peacekeeper, the UN spokesperson said.
The spokesperson identified the fallen peacekeeper as Corporal Stephen Muloke Sachachoma, 33, a member of the Zambian military contingent serving with UN peacekeepers in the Central African Republic. A second Zambian peacekeeper was injured and is receiving medical treatment.
The secretary-general recalled that attacks targeting UN peacekeepers may constitute war crimes under international law and called on Central African authorities to "spare no effort in identifying the perpetrators of this tragedy so they can be brought swiftly to justice," the spokesperson said. The statement was shared with journalists at the briefing.
