Appleton library reports full staffing, expands summer early-childhood programs and hosts interns

Library staff reported on June 17 that there are currently no active hiring processes and the library is fully staffed. The board was told this status is unusual and viewed as positive.
Staff described expanded summer early-childhood programming: a biweekly toddler play program that drew about 50 attendees at its first session, a multilingual play program and a new afternoon play session aimed at caregivers for whom morning programs conflict with work or nap schedules. Staff said those program changes were experimental for the summer and would be evaluated for future planning.
The board was introduced to a summer intern in community partnerships, Maya Lemery, who will work 12 weeks supporting teen and adult programs. Staff also summarized a recently completed community-partnerships internship held by Evelyn Best, a Lawrence University graduate now enrolled in the University of Michigan's Master of Library and Information Science program; Best produced a literature review and a short, staff-shared presentation on Gen Z and younger-adult library use with recommendations for programming and engagement.
Staff credited the Friends group for providing supplemental funding and noted Friends can act as a fiscal agent for grants requiring a 501(c)(3) applicant when appropriate. A large performer (Mystic and Magic) was scheduled for two shows during the week of the meeting.
