Appleton library nears completion; hearing loop, donor signage and landscaping finishing

Library staff told trustees on June 17 that most construction and finishing work at the new Appleton Public Library building is winding down and several accessibility and finishing items remain.

Staff said additional donor signage that required complex installation was hung the prior week. The hearing loop system for assistive listening is scheduled to be commissioned this week in the large meeting room and still must be installed in the library's service desks and the meeting-room area. A recently installed children's guarding gate was said to be physically in place but not yet fully functional, and exterior railing remains to be installed. The learning stairs will receive a rubberized surface rather than exposed concrete, staff said. Landscaping work was described as ongoing.

Staff said they would remove routine building updates from future agendas unless trustees asked for more detail; they offered to do a short training after the hearing loop installation to explain how the loop functions and why it was installed. Attendance and use of the new building were described as "amazing" overall, with May quieter as expected during seasonal transitions.
