TDEC updates solid-waste rules to align timing and fees with current practice; no fee increase reported

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) presented revisions to its solid-waste regulations that officials said modernize language, align permitting timelines and fee schedules with current practices and remove outdated or burdensome requirements.
Allie Williamson, legislative director for TDEC, said the changes do not increase fees or extend review periods but clarify and align fee schedules and regulatory timelines to reflect Division of Solid Waste Management practice. She also said TDEC revised the definition of "isolation room waste" at the Department of Health's request to avoid unnecessary costs for healthcare providers.
The committee asked whether Health had concerns; TDEC staff said Health sought the redefinition to prevent noninfectious waste from being treated as infectious, which would increase costs for regulated healthcare providers. The committee recorded positive recommendations in both the Senate and the House.
