Perry County planning staff used the June 18 meeting to update the commission on several regional planning initiatives, including the regional transportation plan (RTP) public‑comment schedule, preparation for the Greenways & Trails Summit, the county hazard mitigation plan’s submission to FEMA and multi‑municipal Act 537 sewer planning participation.
Staff said the RTP public comment period will open July 1 and run through Aug. 15, with two virtual public meetings before an in‑person meeting July 23; adoption was tentatively scheduled for September. Staff also described work to build a story‑map of county points of interest for the Greenways & Trails Summit, including GIS plotting and planned photo collection by the communications coordinator. Alexa Korber (virtual meeting operator) and staff were thanked for mapping and outreach support.
On hazard mitigation, staff said the county consultant received PEMA’s go‑ahead to send the updated hazard mitigation plan to FEMA; once PEMA and FEMA reviews are complete, staff will circulate the draft to municipalities for adoption resolutions. Staff indicated they expect a review window from FEMA and would follow up on any timing questions.
Finally, staff reported 11 municipalities indicated interest in a multi‑municipal Act 537 (sewage facilities) planning process to update decades‑old plans and target community needs; staff said they will pursue funding for participating municipalities and recommended focusing on areas with the greatest need for sewer solutions or water‑quality improvements.
No formal decisions were required; staff said they would post RTP public‑comment details and continue outreach for the Act 537 cooperative planning effort.
