Town staff reported that a pre-construction meeting for the new James Island art and community center was well attended, with more than 40 people and roughly a dozen to 15 companies expressing interest in bidding.
Staff said requests for information about the project are due by the end of next week and that sealed bids will be accepted through July 10. No contract award or selection was discussed at the meeting; council members said they were pleased with the level of interest and the expected schedule.
Council members also highlighted several upcoming community events: a flagpole dedication on Folly Road with a ceremony scheduled for Thursday at 11:00 a.m., a Hurricane Awareness Expo at Lowe's on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the town market (reported to have drawn roughly 500 people during its recent occurrence). Town staff and volunteers plan to staff information booths at community events.
There were no formal votes tied to the pre-construction update or the events announcements; council members encouraged public attendance and noted next steps for procurement as questions and bids proceed.
"We've had a few questions come in. Questions are due by the end of next week and then the bids will be in on July 10," the mayor said, reporting the procurement schedule.
