Berrien County commissioners approve minutes, note corrected requisition and Silver Beach updates

The Berrien County Board of Commissioners approved minutes from its previous meeting and heard updates on a corrected requisition list and improvements at Silver Beach during its March 5 meeting.

Commissioner Freeling moved to approve the minutes from a week earlier; Commissioner Orfel seconded the motion. The board approved the motion by voice vote after the clerk confirmed a quorum of nine members. The chair declared: “Minutes are approved.”

Before the vote, staff noted one error on the requisition list — a ceiling fan item had an incorrect number inserted — and said the mistake had been corrected on the requisition list. No further action was taken on the requisition; it was an informational correction.

During the meeting, a commissioner thanked colleagues who attended a ribbon‑cutting at Silver Beach and reported several improvements: a newly installed playground, a lane extension with asphalt in place for curbing and guttering, upgraded sidewalks with ADA ramps to ensure compliance, and expedited lighting repairs targeted for completion before the July 4 holiday. The commissioner credited Parks staff and collaborators, saying the sidewalks include ADA ramps “to ensure that we're fully compliant on that.”

The board recessed to allow photo opportunities after the awards presentation and indicated committees could begin afterward. No ordinances, contracts, or additional votes were taken on requisitions or Silver Beach improvements during the session.
