Planning Board Will Recommend Town Open-Space Plan After Minor Edits

Planning board members on June 12 reviewed the draft Town of Lakeville Open Space Plan and agreed to submit a letter of recommendation after a short list of edits.
Board members praised the plan and identified a number of factual updates and clarifications for the plan document: updates to a water-supply reference (a New Bedford water allocation the town previously expected is no longer available), adding or correcting map layers for floodplain and water-resource protection, noting a recent sale of Holland Road Farm, removing references to a now-deleted Development Opportunity District (DOD), and correcting place-name changes such as the Upland/Front Yard Circle rename. The board also noted text referencing the town cell-tower lease and suggested confirming whether the town receives ongoing annual payments or received a lump-sum arrangement.
Planning members highlighted passages on night-sky and lighting protections and their potential relevance to municipal lighting policy; the plan’s connections to the housing production plan, master plan and priority protection areas were also noted as strengths. The board asked staff to compile the suggested page-numbered edits into a single list and transmit a formal recommendation to the open-space committee. The planning board’s formal recommendation will make the town eligible for certain open-space and recreational grants that require a current open-space plan.
Staff will prepare and send a letter of recommendation that thanks the open-space committee for the plan, lists the requested factual edits, and notes the board’s endorsement subject to those changes.
