The Brownsville City Commission voted on June 17 to canvass and declare the results of the June 7 municipal runoff and issued certificates of election for two seats, then administered oaths to the winners.
The action came at the start of the meeting after staff presented the final results and a recommendation to approve. A motion to approve the canvass was made, seconded and carried on a voice vote. Mayor Pro Tem Villara announced the item and cited Texas Election Code provisions that govern canvassing.
Following the canvass, city staff presented certificates of election. Nurith Galansky Pisana was issued the certificate for Commissioner at Large B and took the oath of office administered by the judge on the dais. Galansky thanked supporters and said she looks forward to representing the whole city. Pedro Eduardo Cardenas received the certificate for City Commissioner, District 4, took the oath and pledged to “work every single day with dedication and transparency.”
Judge Ignacio Corteia administered both oaths. The commission recessed briefly after the swearing-in to allow family and guests to greet the new commissioners.
The canvass resolution (No. 2025-067) and the swearing-in were completed as part of the meeting’s opening items; no recorded roll-call vote breakdown beyond the announced voice approval was given on the record.
