Leon County commissioners voted to maintain the countywide millage rate and the EMS MSTU millage at their current levels for the FY26 Truth-in-Millage (TRIM) notices used to print property-tax bills.
County staff told the board that under Florida law the rates set for TRIM notices may be lowered but not raised at later meetings; final ratification occurs after property-appraiser values are certified. Staff recommended keeping current rates for the upcoming notices so the county can complete required public notifications. The board approved staff recommendations (options 1 and 2) by voice vote.
Why this matters: Establishing maximum millage rates for TRIM notices is a statutorily required step in the property-tax and budget process. Keeping rates unchanged preserves county flexibility while alerting taxpayers of the maximum rate the board may set; the board retains authority to adopt final rates during the September hearings, subject to state law.
What’s next: Staff will use the adopted maximum rates to prepare TRIM notices; the board will ratify final millage and budget adoption in September after the July 1 certified property values are available.
