Pahrump's fairgrounds soft‑opens kids tracks; county seeks funding for adult track and infrastructure

Nye County officials told the commission that the Pahrump Fairgrounds OHV Park has completed two kids' tracks and held a soft opening in late March, and that the county seeks additional OHV grant funding to build a larger adult track and finish infrastructure.

Stephanie Urga, Nye County grant administrator, described the overall fairgrounds master plan and said the OHV park occupies a 40‑acre parcel within a larger 427‑acre fairgrounds project. She said the county completed grading and fencing, constructed parking and a sound berm, and used prior OHV program funds to build the initial kids' tracks. The advisory committee staged a soft opening that county staff described as well attended.

Urga said phase 2 funded engineering work is underway and that phase 3 would add a multi‑use adult track to accommodate motocross, UTV and ATV riders; the advisory committee has not finalized the adult track's final acreage but has discussed a 7–10 acre footprint. County staff said future management will be handled by town and county public‑works staff and the fairgrounds advisory committee, and that events and registration assistance would be coordinated at the site.

Commissioners asked about signage, scheduling to avoid conflicts with nearby ball fields and noise mitigation; Nye County said sound and access studies are included in engineering work and that the grant program's terms include long‑term use expectations (staff mentioned a 25‑year program expectation). No commission funding vote occurred at this meeting; the county's proposal will proceed through the grant review process.
