Nevada OHV Commission awards $650,275 in grants, sets conditions on several projects

The Nevada Commission on Off-Highway Vehicles voted on May 29, 2025, to award a slate of grants totaling $650,275.19 to fund staging-area improvements, safety training, trail maintenance and education projects across Nevada.

The awards followed a multi-hour staff presentation and applicant question-and-answer period. Commissioners debated completeness of applications, landowner letters and allowable uses for Off-Highway Vehicle Program (OHP) funds before approving funding for most projects on the staff list. Several applications were denied or tabled because commissioners found required documentation missing or raised legal concerns.

The commission fully funded projects that included a Dunes and Trails outreach/stewardship cleanup ($19,870), Pinenut Mountain Trails Association safety and outreach ($20,000, with stipulation to work with Renown and Nevada Outdoor School to secure full-face helmets), Great Basin Institute winter rangers ($67,297.63) and multiuse trail maintenance ($129,992.11), Pahrump Fairgrounds OHV Park Phase 3 ($88,000), and a media/outreach video project (funded with stipulations that the commission own the content and receive short-form clips). The Story County Sheriff’s Office enforcement and education program was also fully funded.
