Uintah board finalizes FY25 amended budget, approves FY26 preliminary budget and moves forward with preschool opening

The Uintah School District Board of Education approved a series of budget measures June 18, adopting the final amended fiscal-year 2024-25 budget and approving the preliminary FY2025-26 budget while confirming capital project plans, including a near-complete new preschool building.
Business administrator Troy Timothy presented the FY25 final amended budget and a detailed list of adjustments districtwide, highlighting accounting re-classifications, a large land purchase and electric-bus purchases. Timothy said the district was holding a portion of a preschool contractor payment until punch-list items were complete and noted the board would withhold $75,000 pending replacement of exterior metal panels expected in September: "We're going to hold payment until [the building] is done ... we're going to come in under budget, which is unbelievable."
The board adopted the FY24-25 final budget for multiple funds; the motion listed specific fund totals and the combined total budget of $122,606,036. Trustees then unanimously approved a preliminary FY25-26 budget with a total of $100,294,232 and noted the district will finalize tax rates after a separate judgment-levy hearing scheduled Aug. 6. "We will have to sign that paperwork after the August 6 hearing," board members were told.
On capital work, administrators reported the new preschool was substantially complete and on track for a community open house and ribbon-cutting in late August. Timothy said the district retained $80,000 in contingency and expected final work to be finished in September. The board also approved several purchases over $50,000 that were part of planned capital and operational spending: new interactive view-boards, enhanced cyber-security services, a playground replacement for Eagle View Elementary, roof replacement at Uinta High and a white-fleet vehicle acquisition.
Board members praised staff for months of preparation on the budgets. Superintendent Dr. Rick Woodford and business staff said the budgeting work involved many meetings and cross-department collaboration. The board approved the budgets by unanimous voice votes and set the calendar for the coming year, including a public budget hearing and the separate judgment-levy public meeting in August.
