Board approves first-floor office for roofing and rental business at 248 East Main Street with storage restrictions

Sylvia Gonzales was approved July 4 to run a business office for roofing and rental-property operations at 248 East Main Street, subject to conditions limiting on-site storage of construction materials and the removal of a stove from the unit for fire-safety reasons.

Gonzales told the board she operates Goya’s Roofing Inc. and Gonzales Rental Inc. and that the proposed use is office-only; she said supplies and equipment will be kept at a separate warehouse. Staff and the building inspector said they visited the site and were satisfied with the floor plan after the applicant agreed to remove the stove that had been in the unit.

Planning staff and the board noted the property is currently a multifamily building with tenants above; the resolution states there will be no storage of combustible construction materials in the unit or in the basement. Board members also discussed parking and said the applicant indicated that two vehicles would park at a rear lot, while larger equipment and supplies would remain at the separate warehouse.

After a public hearing with no speakers, the board voted to approve the special use permit and site plan. Roll-call votes recorded in the transcript show: Mister Madden — yes; Mister Higbee — yes; Miss Houston — yes; Mister Brito — yes. The motion directed staff to include a condition forbidding storage of construction-related supplies on the premises.
