Long Beach City Council on Tuesday approved contracting with InProduction (sole source, responsive bidder) to supply modular grandstands and seating for the planned Long Beach Amphitheater, a major component of the city’s waterfront entertainment expansion.
Economic development staff said the request‑for‑information process produced a single responsive bidder capable of meeting the project’s timeline and technical needs; staff recommended a sole‑source contract because the vendor demonstrated expertise in modular temporary and semi‑permanent seating for large events and could supply reused and refurbished components to reduce costs amid rising steel and fabrications expenses.
Under the proposed agreement, the vendor will provide design support, three modular grandstand units, premium box seating, track seating and related installation services. Staff emphasized that part of the order will incorporate refurbished materials from similar layouts at other venues to help the city stay within budget. The amphitheater seating plan targets a capacity in excess of 11,000 seats, with higher‑quality seating in box and loge areas.
Procurement and project managers told council that long lead times for fabrication and transport require an early contract award to meet a tentative calendar that includes site improvements this summer, permitting through late 2025 and soft openings and test events in March 2026 with a broader event season beginning in April 2026.
Council voted to award the contract and proceed with procurement as recommended. Staff noted ongoing permitting, staging and coordination with ASM Global, the venue operator, and will return to council and the public with additional project updates as procurement and construction progress.
