North Providence honors Division II state champion baseball team, recognizes volunteer coaches

The North Providence School Committee on June 18 moved an item to the front of its agenda to recognize the North Providence High School boys Division II baseball team after the team won the Division II state championship this past week.
The committee presented citations to players and to the coaching staff, including head coach Paul Rizzo and assistant coaches Luis Barbosa Babola, Jason Gianolfi and Nick Viola. Superintendent Mr. Gojo congratulated the team and described the run through the tournament, noting the team lost its first game, recovered in the losers bracket and secured victory with a decisive mercy-rule win over East Greenwich.
The committee read individual citations for players present at the meeting, naming Tony Abed, Jaden Allard, Michael Allard, Nicholas Almonte, Jaden Dexter, Alex Dippenbach, Carter Harris, Tyler Linehan, Ronnie Poe (shortstop), Vinny Panarelli, John Raftery, Gabriel Ramirez, Anthony Roman, Michael Ryan (not present) and Jacob Souza.
Coach Paul Rizzo thanked the seniors for their leadership and acknowledged assistant coaches and team statistician Dominic Panarelli. "They live by example every single day," one coach said, adding that the program expects continued success with younger players coming up.
Separately, the committee also presented a set of citations to volunteer coaches across the district. The committee named volunteer coaches including Nick Feal and Dominic Panarelli (baseball), Josh Macera and Matthew Rohilla (boys basketball), Patrick Piccard (Birchwood boys basketball), Anthony Marchetti and Tony Marchetti (girls softball) and Ken Thompson (wrestling).
The committee emphasized volunteerism as an important part of the district's athletic programs and thanked coaches for their time and service.
The recognition was ceremonial; no formal action beyond presentation of citations was recorded on the item.
