Board recognizes student state champions, FFA state degree earners and receives alumni donation for CTE

The Hobbs Municipal Schools Board spent part of its July 17 meeting recognizing student achievements and accepting a donation to the district's career and technical education program.
Athletics: Board members and administrators honored Hobbs High student athletes, including members of the 4x800 state championship relay team and state champions in the 100‑meter and long jump events. Presenters named student athletes and coaches and noted several had earned track scholarships.
FFA: Hobbs High FFA adviser and student officers described state FFA degree requirements. Students Abby Rogers, Audrey Davidson and Lauren Parr spoke about supervised agricultural experiences (SAE), entrepreneurship and community service required to earn the state degree. Rogers described starting a business and said the program taught business planning, finances and portfolio development; Davidson and Parr described their SAEs and hours spent (Davidson mentioned about 450 SAE hours and $2,600 in expenses and $296 in earnings).
Civics Bee: The board recognized Alyssa Rocha for placement in local and state civics competitions; Rocha is from Houston Middle School and placed among top finishers at state and national levels.
Alumni donation: Members of the Hobbs High class of 1970 presented a $3,200 check to support the CTE program, saying they were impressed by recent tours of the facility and wished to contribute.
Superintendent Strickland and board members praised the students, coaches, advisers and donors for their contributions to district programs.
