Board members had been provided the high school curriculum handbook changes last month and voted to approve the revisions after a month for review. The board then approved motions to accept expenditures, investments and budget adjustments (including an $850,655 state match increase and a transportation adjustment of $87,991.50 referenced in the packet) and awarded multiple concession and vendor bids after competitive solicitations.
Business Manager Byrd and incoming business manager Jay Lashaway presented the packet. The board approved the items by voice vote.
On facilities and operations, staff reported multiple summer projects: site work for the new Hauser middle school and associated roadway, electrical engineering for Mills Elementary, roofing repairs following a hailstorm across multiple campuses, and ongoing renovations including a Highland Middle School cafeteria remodel and Central Kitchen generator and freezer door work.
The board approved a transportation fuel allotment of $83,326.25 to B and G, the district's bus contractor, to cover remaining state allotment funds and allow the contractor to start the year with sufficient fuel and supplies. The motion passed by voice vote.
The board also accepted the district's inventory reports (technology and physical inventory spanning hundreds of pages) and approved the clearance of checks outstanding for more than one year where vendors or individuals did not respond.
Policy advisories from the New Mexico School Board Association were on the agenda: the board gave third and final approval to Policy Service Advisories 261 and 262 (school schedules, course loads and graduation requirements) and took first‑reading action on advisories 263, 264, 265, 266, 268 and 269. A separate advisory related to wireless communication devices (Policy Advisory 267 / Senate Bill 11) was discussed and staff said they would delay detailed implementation to allow the district coalition and teachers time to align local handbook practices and meet statutory three‑reading requirements.
