Members of the Walpole School Building Committee on June 17 debated whether the committee should continue meeting after the majority of school construction work has finished.

One committee member asked whether the body still needs to meet because most school construction and occupancy objectives have been met and the remaining work is primarily field and site finishing. Kate, project staff, said typically the school building committee stays involved “until the last Fontaine rec is paid and that checks off our box that we’re starting the close out process with the MSBA.” She said the team is trying to complete outstanding work in September so the final Fontaine requisition can be submitted early in the fall and the closeout clock with MSBA can start.
Some members suggested shifting invoice approvals to the Select Board, which meets regularly, but others noted they would need a legal opinion because the MSBA may expect the original scope-building committee to remain active when owner-funded scope was added to the project.
Project staff estimated that final invoice and landscape acceptance activity could continue into September or October, with landscape acceptance often the last item to be completed. The committee took no formal vote to dissolve or transfer oversight; members said a decision can wait until the team reports back on a September schedule and the status of final requisitions.
