Middle school site work mostly complete; fencing, bleachers and scoreboards remain

Contractors on the Walpole Middle School project have largely demobilized from the East Street change-order work, and landscapers are completing site touches such as batting cages and safety netting posts, a project representative reported on June 17.
Why it matters: site completion affects use of fields, public access and scheduling for final inspections needed for project closeout and MSBA reimbursement.
Griffin, a project representative, said site contractors have demobilized and landscapers are installing batting cages and site furnishings. Dugout canopies were delivered the prior week and will be assembled late this week into next week. Scoreboard deliveries have arrived for the varsity field and the softball field; installation is expected around the last week of the month.
Fencing posts and safety-netting posts are installed; staff said the fence fabric will be attached after the town completes walkway paving to make installation easier. Several committee members asked about the finished look of the retention pond; Griffin said it will receive a retention-seeding mix, described in the meeting as a “low-mow, low-maintenance mix.”
Remaining exterior items likely to stretch into July include fence fabric installation, delivery and installation of bleachers (footing pads have been poured) and a small number of landscaping touch-ups. Inside the building, the team reported fewer than 10 remaining punch-list items; project staff said they will use the summer period with students out of the building to close them out and have the landscape architect recheck Phase 1 lawns.
The committee asked to be notified when a firm delivery date for the bleachers is locked down. Project staff also said they expect minimal landscape touch-up after those deliveries and will notify the committee of significant schedule changes.
