Volunteer driver asks Denton County for help after cuts threaten Meals on Wheels support for DADS clients

Carol Soap, a volunteer driver and former co-director with the local Meals on Wheels program, told Denton County Commissioners Court during public comment that cuts affecting DADS clients — clients supported by the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services — put homebound and vulnerable residents at immediate risk of losing their meals.
"In the next few weeks, these vulnerable DADS clients who cannot advocate for themselves and who are homebound will not be receiving their meals," Soap said, noting her decades of volunteer service and asking the county to assist because of the "immediate need."
The court's presiding judge responded during public comment that the Meals on Wheels payments described are not county-funded. "I just want to make it clear that is not county funding," the judge said.
Soap asked the county to consider help because she described the local program as under threat due to shifting federal funding. The court did not take an action on the request during the meeting; the matter was recorded as public comment.
