Le Mars City Council adopted Resolution 25-26 on June 17 approving the voluntary annexation of 35 acres west of the city limits.
City staff told the council the land, located near Key Avenue and Fourth Street South, was purchased by the Le Mars Business Initiative Corporation. A consultation meeting was held May 14, 2025, and required public notices were sent; the council opened a public hearing at the June 17 meeting, received no public comment and closed the hearing before voting.
Administration recommended approval of the annexation and a councilmember moved and a second was recorded. A roll call recorded “yes” votes from Councilmember Bruns, Councilmember Goodchild, Councilmember Pick and Councilmember Sturgeon; the motion carried and the resolution was adopted.
The annexation had been set for public hearing by the council at its May 6, 2025 meeting. After adopting the resolution, the council moved on to general discussion and the public comment period.
No other conditions, amendments or contingencies were stated on the record during the June 17 meeting.
