Las Cruces Public Schools named one of ‘Best Communities for Music Education’

Las Cruces Public Schools on June 17 was recognized as one of the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation’s “Best Communities for Music Education,” district staff said during the board meeting.
Mr. Flores (district music representative) told the board the national distinction “honors school districts that demonstrate outstanding commitment and access to music education for all students” and credited investments of funding, personnel and time. Superintendent Ruiz added congratulations to staff and administrators for building and sustaining strong music programs.
Board members praised the quality of student performances and noted music programs’ broader educational benefits. Member Frank said the music presentations at board meetings and competitions represented “quality… way beyond anything that I saw” in past experience. Member Tenorio described music as a retention tool and said participation can help chronically absent students re-engage.
The board posed for a recognition photograph and invited community acknowledgement of district music staff and parents.
