Toledo council honors Advocating Opportunity on 10th anniversary

The Toledo City Council on June 17 adopted Resolution 261-25 recognizing Advocating Opportunity on its 10th anniversary and commending the organization for legal services and whole-person advocacy for survivors of human trafficking.
Council members praised Advocating Opportunity’s work and national recognition. Councilman Martinez read from the organization’s vision language and said he and other council members looked forward to the nonprofit’s continued work for decades to come.
Megan Matimo, founder and director of Advocating Opportunity, accepted the recognition and introduced staff members in attendance, including Rachel Gorman, Brianne Eid, Kizzy Williams, Rebecca Bundy, Chelsea Demicks, Raven Dodsbringer and China Pfeiffer. Matimo described the organization’s services and thanked council for the honor.
The resolution’s recital language included references to the organization’s founding in 2015, awards and recognitions, including Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council, and the organization’s expansion beyond Ohio. The measure passed by roll call and was recorded as adopted on the council minutes.
