Engineering staff told the committee the street is currently 22 feet wide and, when cars park on both sides, the remaining travel lane can narrow to 6–8 feet — too tight to safely pass with a fire truck. Staff said the south side was chosen for the trial because more side-street access is available to most parcels on that side; the north side contains more landlocked parcels.
Alder Meindl, who reviewed the block, supported the trial and suggested more stringent restrictions could be considered after monitoring. Alder Champine seconded the motion, and the committee approved the trial by voice vote.
Engineering assigned the multimodal engineer to handle implementation; the trial will include monitoring and a return to committee if adjustments are needed.
