Committee removes parking restrictions on east side of 70 Second Street near Wauwatosa High School

The Transportation Affairs Committee voted unanimously to remove parking restrictions on the east side of 70 Second Street from Milwaukee Avenue to Hillcrest after staff observed low utilization during two separate review periods.
Staff said initial observations during the first and second halves of the school year found an average of two to three vehicles parked on the east side of the block (occasionally up to five) and concluded there were no operational problems from re-opening the curb to parking. The department notified residents before the meeting and reported no comments were received opposing the change.
Alder Meindl, whose district includes the block, said he supported the change given the low observed usage and the distance to the high school, and cautioned that the council would revisit the item if residents report problems next school year. Alder Lewis moved approval and Alder Meindl seconded; the voice vote was unanimous.
Engineering will remove the posted restrictions and update the city’s parking records to reflect the east-side curb as unrestricted between Milwaukee and Hillcrest.
