Toledo City Council adopts municipal climate action plan unanimously

Toledo City Council adopted the City of Toledo Municipal Climate Action Plan on June 17, making the plan the city’s official municipal environmental protection and climate resilience roadmap. The ordinance was presented by Councilman Komives and passed by unanimous vote.
The plan was introduced as an emergency measure and moved through suspension and final passage during the meeting. Councilman Komives presented the plan to the council as the administration and the council’s sustainability staff had finalized the document for adoption.
Councilman Martinez praised Komives’ leadership after the vote, saying, "I just wanted to compliment my colleague, Councilman Komives, for his leadership on that past resolution. I think that is momentous and a great step in the right direction." Martinez added that he sees the plan as a meaningful step for Toledo and the region.
The plan will now serve as the City of Toledo’s official municipal environmental protection and climate resilience plan. Council members recorded their support during the roll call; the clerk recorded the unanimous approvals and the ordinance was marked passed.
Council staff and the administration will now move to implement recommendations and next steps identified in the plan, including staff assignments and any future requests for funding tied to specific projects in the plan.
