Clerk presents Marion County proposed FY 2025-26 budget; commission schedules July workshops

Marion County's proposed fiscal year 2025-26 budget and five-year capital improvement program were presented to the Board of County Commissioners on June 17 by Miguel Figura, budget analyst for the Clerk of Court and Comptroller.
Figura described the proposed package as three documents: a public-facing budget document with narrative summaries and performance measures, a statutory line-item budget and a five-year capital improvement program. He told commissioners the proposed package compiles departmental requests and constitutional-officer submissions for the board's review but does not represent final funding levels; the County Commission will review and adjust requests through July workshops.
Commissioners set budget-workshop dates: full days July 16 and July 17, and morning sessions July 23 and a special meeting July 24 at 1:30 p.m. to set the maximum millage rate by the state's Aug. 4 deadline. Final adoption will occur after two public hearings scheduled for the evening of Sept. 4 and Sept. 22.
Commissioner Stone praised the Clerk's office for clear documentation and encouraged residents to review the front section of the proposed budget for an overview of county revenues and spending. No action to adopt the budget was required at the June 17 meeting; staff said documents are available on the Clerk's website for public review.
