The Laguna Beach Planning Commission on June 18 adopted a resolution approving sign permit 25-0849 for the Q Terrace restaurant at 680 South Coast Highway. Staff recommended the permit after reviewing a proposed halo-illuminated reverse-channel wall sign mounted above the restaurant entrance facing South Coast Highway.
Assistant planner Sarah Olsen said the sign will use black painted aluminum reverse-channel letters with warm white LED halo illumination; the largest letter (Q) is 29 inches high, the remaining line for “Terrace” is 15 inches, and a second line is 6 inches high, giving a total sign area of 24.16 square feet. Staff found the proposal consistent with the municipal code and signage design criteria and recommended approval under a CEQA exemption.
Commissioners discussed adding a pedestrian-facing blade sign to capture foot traffic; the applicant said they are considering a non-illuminated blade sign and would submit that later under an administrative sign permit. The commission approved the wall sign unanimously and reminded the applicant of the 14-day appeal period to City Council.
