Allentown staff outline summer concerts, Juneteenth events, pools and skate park timeline

Parks & Recreation staff told the Allentown City Public Works Committee that summer concerts, Juneteenth events and city pools and playground programs are underway, and that phase 2 of the city skate park is expected to open in July or August.
“We think it went well. Great attendance. Next concert is July 11, 6 to 9. And we're really excited to see, that activation grow, and the partnership with ArtsQuest being in Allentown,” Parks & Recreation staff said.
The staff update also noted a Juneteenth football tournament at J. Bernie Crum Stadium and a flag-raising at City Hall, and said Juneteenth festivities will take place at Cedar Beach Park Friday through Sunday. Staff reported that city pools and the summer playground program are open and “fully staffed.”
A committee member raised complaints received from constituents about concert noise last year, saying calls came in when music continued past 10 p.m. and that police were called to shut events down. The committee member said, “Are we going to, how are we gonna rectify that? The police had to be called actually, to shut it down.”
Parks & Recreation staff responded: “So, this year, for all concerts, both Union Terrace and Bomba, there's a hard stop at 9PM. And our team and staff are there to make sure that that happens.”
On recreation infrastructure, staff said, “phase 2 of the skate park, is moving along, and we are anticipating opening, of the skate park July or August.” Committee members had no further questions during the update.
Residents should expect the next public concert on July 11, 6 to 9 p.m., a Juneteenth flag-raising at City Hall at noon, and multi-day Juneteenth programming at Cedar Beach Park.
