Mayor Pro Tem Leticia Hughes then nominated Crystal Chisholm, and the nomination was seconded; Chisholm accepted the nomination.
Council used voting pads to elect Chisholm; the city announced the vote result as 6–1. The mayor pro tem serves as mayor in the mayor's absence or disability under the city's home-rule charter.
