The budget was presented by Dustin Turrington, who told the board the appropriations limit had been updated to $392,400,000 "according to law" and that the adopted total appropriations of $228,900,000 are well under that limit. The adopted plan adds an $80,000 allocation for education and community listening sessions intended to assess and communicate need for a future transportation measure, and it retains a communications specialist position that remains contingent on the board chair's approval and further subcommittee discussion.
Turrington said the communications position is intended to support public education and outreach for Measure A and potential future measures. He described the budget as reflecting "financial prudence and strategic investment in engagement and education." After the presentation there were no public or board questions on the matter.
The board adopted the budget by roll-call vote. The clerk recorded ayes from the directors present; the motion carried and the chair announced the motion carried.
The meeting also approved the consent calendar (items 2 through 8) earlier in the session by motion and voice/roll call; the clerk reported no public comments on consent and the chair announced the consent vote passed unanimously with those members present.
The board did not set additional conditions on the adopted budget at the meeting; staff will proceed with implementation subject to the communications specialist position receiving any additional approvals noted in the budget materials.
