The resolution asks staff and the planning commission to examine whether the site could host a roughly 400-person conference facility and associated hotel and to evaluate traffic, stormwater, aesthetics and other potential impacts. Committee members and residents emphasized that the vote does not approve construction — it authorizes further study and preliminary planning.
Residents at the meeting said Stop 30 Road and nearby waterways already have maintenance and flooding problems. Kristen Thomas, a resident of The Meadows, told the committee she and neighbors worry new development would “exacerbate that issue” because the area already has flooding and “not a whole lot of green space to soak up” rainwater.
