Board members walked through first readings of proposed policies including a new nepotism and employment policy (numbered in packet as 498), revisions to policy 503 (student attendance) and updates to 506 (student discipline) and 512 (school‑sponsored student publications). During discussion members identified formatting and grammar changes, proposed removing redundancy in the attendance language and debated the length of an introductory statement in the discipline policy. Board members agreed to move the policies forward for additional review; those items were presented as first readings and no final vote was taken on them.
Separately, the board approved a motion to adopt policy changes listed earlier in the packet (identified as policies 04/17, 04/25 and 05/2005 in the meeting packet). Motion by Matt Morley, second by Emily Larson; the motion passed by voice vote.
Board members directed staff to incorporate the suggested edits and to present the revised language at the next policy reading."
