At the June 16 Committee of the Whole, the Building and Site committee outlined several planned capital and facilities projects to be scheduled over the summer and into the next school year, and indicated items would come forward for formal action at the board’s regular meeting.
LECC parking-lot lighting District facilities staff said three poles and fixtures are planned for a gravel parking area used primarily by staff at the LECC (Early Childhood Center), with the lowest responsive pricing coming through a cooperative contract (VOS / Omnia/NCPA pricing). Presenters said work is scheduled so lighting will be available for darker fall/winter days and that the project will go to the board for approval on the regular meeting agenda.
Churchill High School furniture Facilities staff presented a furniture package for areas surrounding the library/media center (LMC) and counseling/CIC spaces at Churchill. The vendor quote totaled $127,055.67; staff asked the board to authorize a not-to-exceed amount of $135,000 using bond contingency dollars captured from previously approved projects to permit timely ordering and installation during summer work.
Athletic sound systems across three high schools Administrators and facilities staff described a plan to replace and upgrade sound systems at stadiums, pools and main gyms across the three high schools, citing better coverage and clearer audio for athletics, assemblies and other public events. The recommended vendor (Rollins Soundcom) used cooperative purchasing contract pricing; staff said quotes were compared among three vendors, IT reviewed technical proposals, and athletic directors who will use the systems participated in vendor evaluation. Staff emphasized lead time for equipment and installation and said the project will be included on the upcoming consent/regular agenda for board approval.
Funding, timing and other items Staff noted bond proceeds and capital-project funds are the likely funding sources for these capital items. Separately, in the capital projects discussion earlier in the meeting, staff reported a recent bus auction expected to yield a check for about $135,000 that in-session was updated to roughly $235,000; staff said property-sale timing on a negotiated property (Ann Arbor Trail parcel under due diligence) remains uncertain and probably will carry into the next fiscal year. Buildings-and-site items discussed were described as routine capital improvements tied to prior bond projects or sinking-fund work.
Ending Committee members asked staff to confirm references and on-site examples for the audio systems; staff said athletic administrators had visited comparable installations and that purchasers had checked references. All items discussed will be placed on the regular meeting agenda for formal board action the following week.
