Riley County Commission approves routine motions, awards surplus-auction authorization and adopts fireworks rule

Riley County commissioners at their June 16 meeting approved a series of routine motions, including authorization for an online auction of surplus county property and adoption of an updated fireworks resolution.

The board moved, seconded and approved authorization for Public Works to dispose of surplus county personal property via an Internet-only public auction conducted by Purple Wave Inc. The motion was made and seconded during the business meeting and approved by voice vote.

Commissioners also approved Amendment No. 1 to the biannual bridge inspection services contract, adding $2,465 for a scour evaluation on the South Otter Creek Road project. That motion was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.

The board authorized the chair to sign two documents related to a regional transportation study: a funding agreement and a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) and the City of Manhattan. The motion to sign both documents was moved, seconded and approved.

Other administrative approvals included: - Approval of textual tax-roll corrections as presented (motion moved and seconded; approved by voice vote). - Approval of the minutes of the June 12 Riley County Commission meeting (motion moved and seconded; approved by voice vote).

Riley County EMS received approval to lend a UTV patient hauler to Pottawatomie County EMS for July 3–5 to support a Fourth of July event; the request was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.

Finally, as part of separate business, the commission adopted a new county resolution updating seasonal fireworks rules (see separate article). The fireworks resolution was presented by the county counselor and adopted after a motion, second and a voice vote in the affirmative.

All votes recorded on the meeting audio were taken by voice; the clerk called for “All in favor?” and the board replied “Aye.” The record as provided did not include roll-call vote tallies by commissioner name.

Meeting adjourned following the votes.

Ending: The items approved are administrative in nature or routine county business; the commission did not take additional policy votes beyond the fireworks resolution at this session.
