The amendment covers interior tenant improvements to provide workspace for the streets and storm divisions after parks and fleet move to a new building now under construction. City staff told council the design phase would proceed over the summer and into early fall, with the project put out to bid later in the fall and construction hoped to begin next spring.
Cody Riddle, a city staff presenter, told council the original professional services agreement with Lombard Conrad Architects was signed in April of last year and subsequently modified in November to include additional landscape survey and HVAC design work. Riddle said the latest modification is intended to ensure the existing shop remains a safe professional workspace and to extend the building's useful life by “at least another 20 years.”
Councilmembers who spoke during the discussion said the interior work and higher design fees are intended to improve employee efficiency and morale. Councilmember Drew said updated facilities would make employees “a lot more efficient” and improve morale; Councilmember Haley said the amendment was anticipated, is in the capital improvement plan and in the budget, and had been reviewed positively by the Public Works and Finance Committee.
A motion to approve the amendment was moved and seconded on the record; the roll call vote recorded Councilmember Haley, Councilmember Gina, Councilmember Drew, Councilmember Sam, Councilmember Bryce and Acting Mayor Julia Parker voting “aye.” The motion passed and staff said they would proceed with the announced schedule.
