Teays Valley stakeholders ask Putnam County to press state for new public hearing and stakeholder meeting on proposed road work

Speakers representing Teays Valley businesses and residents urged the Putnam County Commission to support a request for a new stakeholder meeting and additional public hearings on proposed Department of Highways work in the Teays Valley corridor.
A public commenter said the filing delivered to the county represents more than 2,000 stakeholders and more than 40 businesses in the valley, including the Teays Valley Business Park and the YMCA. The commenter said copies of petitions, meeting notes and an alternative design proposal prepared by committee members were delivered to the Department of Highways, the governor's office and county representatives and were discussed at the county's transportation committee.
Ellen Mills Pauley, a local resident who identified herself as working with the committee, told commissioners she and other members believe they did not receive adequate information from the Department of Highways and asked the county to support another public hearing and a stakeholders meeting. Mills Pauley said the group has prepared an alternative proposal and asked for the issue to be placed on the county commission agenda for the meeting on October 14.
Commissioners did not take a formal vote on the request during the meeting; staff acknowledged receipt of the materials and said they had seen some of the documents that day. Commenters asked the commission to place the matter on the transportation committee agenda until the community and the Department of Highways reach a resolution.
