West Geauga reports top state results on Ohio school report card; superintendent gives facilities update

West Geauga Local School District officials told the board that the district earned a top statewide ranking on the Ohio Department of Education’s 2025 school report cards, placing 11th of 607 districts and earning a cumulative five‑star rating in every component category.
District leaders said West Geauga High School was ranked second among high schools statewide. The board was told that administrators Dr. Amy Davis and Megan Bellen will present a more detailed breakdown of the report card at a future board meeting.
The report card results, the superintendent said, reflect student achievement across academics and nonacademic measures and the district’s sustained efforts. Superintendent Dr. Benincasa said the results reflect “the culmination of so much work and effort of our children,” and thanked teachers, staff and families for their support.
In the superintendent’s report, staff also highlighted recent extracurricular and community events. Dr. Benincasa noted a student, Charlotte Spire, represented West Geauga at the KeyBank Shining Star competition at Playhouse Square and said the district hopes to bring her to a future meeting. He also described a community “Wolverine kickoff” event and recent homecoming activities.
On facilities, the superintendent reported a plumbing issue at the high school that will require additional work; district staff and contractors are evaluating repair options and will bring recommendations to the board in the coming days to weeks. He also said roofing work that suffered summer weather delays is nearing completion, with contractors expected to finish perimeter metal work and other final tasks within about two weeks.
Board members and administrators emphasized that the report card results do not reflect a single test score but multiple measures including student supports and relationships. Dr. Benincasa and board members said a detailed presentation on the report card components will be provided at the next board meeting.
The board set its next meeting for Monday, Oct. 13, 2025, at 7 p.m. in the Board Office Community Room.
