County reports progress on community services building, Deep Lakes asphalt, road paving and Edgewater conservation deals

Muscatine County staff provided several project updates Sept. 22 covering building work, road projects and a conservation-land transaction.

County Development staff said demolition work has begun at the community services building entrance ramps and crews have reset landscape blocking at a lower entrance near an Eric Sanders office to maintain public access. At Deep Lakes, crews made substantial progress on asphalt road work and worked into the evening to advance paving; staff said they hoped to complete the asphalt by the end of the following day.

County engineer Brian (county staff) reported a short delay to paving on Stewart Road, which he said is now expected to start the day after the meeting after a technical issue, and said work on a box culvert on 160th Street is progressing with a concrete pour expected that day. Brian said the contractor Outrige and Calder have experience managing water at the challenging site and that footing sections have been completed.

Regarding a conservation/land transaction identified in the packet as Edgewater (the transcript referenced signatures and The Nature Conservancy), staff said final documents are in the signature stage. The county received an escrow-bank response about staged fund releases tied to completed work and said bank requests for corporate designees to authorize releases remained under review; staff said they hoped to present the matter for final county action in the month.
